Being new to exchange server 2003, any advice or help would be appreciated....

Here's the scenario -

We currently have a small domain which hosts exchange server 2003. As part of the expansion we require exchange installed on another server within the domain.  This server will eventually be moved out of the domain and use exchange as it's primary mail server.
How do I go about installing exchange on the domain without affecting the current setup ready for when it's moved out into the new domain, which is not setup yet.

Would installing exchange and associating it with the current AD cause problems later on when moving it into a new domain?

Hi,

Maybe it's an option to create a resource forest domain. This will place Exchange in a seperate forest and associate the users to this from the other forest.

Have a look at the following technet article:

I am still confused as to do you want to Exchange in same domain ? If that's the case Exchange wont affect AD by any means.

Server would be eventually be moved out of domain - does this mean that you would move the box into a new domain, once its setup in existing domain.

This isn't supported - however there are alternatives.

Thanks for the speedy replies. Basically, we want to install exchange to a server which exists on the current domain. This server will then be moved out of the domain when the new network is setup. Exchange will then act as the sole email server in the new domain.

My thinking was to get everything ready for the change over and have exchange already installed ready for the move. However it looks like this is not supported, thanks for the link, i'll have a look and see if we could apply a work around.
