My problem is this, we had an account with the user name 'reception' and email address reception@ourdomain.co.uk. The reason for the generic title of user was because we had a series of temporary receptionists and didn't want to have to create a new account for each one.

We now have a full time receptionist so I have created her own user account and mailbox which is sheila@ourdomain.co.uk. I also want any emails to reception@ourdomain.co.uk to end up in sheila@ourdomain.co.uk's mailbox so I have added reception@ourdomain.co.uk & reception@ourdomain.local as email address for that account. Before I could do this I deleted the recpetion@ourdomain.co.uk mailbox and user account having copied the contents of the mailbox to the new mailbox.

Now sending emails from an external source to reception@ourdomain.co.uk and also sending any internally to reception@ourdomain.local all work fine. However if you try and send internally to reception@ourdomain.co.uk or reply to an email which was sent from reception@ourdomian.co.uk before it was deleted it doesn't get through.

I will be extremely grateful if someone has a solution to this. Were running Small Business Server 2008 and Exchange 2007.

Many Thanks
John

How is your outlook configured? Live or cached mode?

Sounds like your GAL has not updated yet.

To test, if youre in cahced mode, click on tools > account settings > click the change tab from email and uncheck use cached exchange mode. Restart outlook, and shoot an email to reception.

Since the email issue seems to be contained to being an internal outlook issue I would start there.

The name still refers to the old account.Open new mail, type few letters of the address, when it appears from the cache, highlight and delete. Now type the address again and send the mail.

Thanks to the above replies but as I suspected it was a server based problem not an Outlook one as suggested.

For future reference you need to add an X500 address for the new mailbox with an Exchange string for the old mailbox for internal to work.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313324 explains how to add an X500 address. I couldn't query the AD for the string as I had already deleted the user and mailbox but managed to lift the correct string from the .nk2 file on one of the users workstations.
