I am setting up an Exchange 2010 environment to migrate from 2007 and have 2 questions for a load balanced casarry. Right now, I do not need any external OWA or activesync access.

I have created a casarry called casarray.domain

For each CAS server, do I change each Internal URL to be ie, https://casarray.domain/owa, etc....

For each CAS server, I set the SCP as:
Set-clientaccessserver CASSERVER1 –autodiscoverserviceinternaluri https://casarray.domain/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

Are the 2 needed to run properly. I am trying to follow some best practices from a MS workshop I just took so am just verifying.

Thanks.

No, you don;t have to change or have two different URL's. You can keep the same URL on the CAS servers.
Of course both of them have to run properly or users won't be able to access the OWA(internally and Externally)

What is your concern?

No concern's, just want to make sure I did it correctly. Since we dont use OWA or activesync internal I guess it wouldn't matter. The big one I was wondering about was OAB. I assume the internal URL doesn't matter there for internal Outlook clients though.

Sounds like using the CAS Array name is fine. I will modify the external once I am ready for OWA and such.

Thanks.

Hi,

To be more clear: best practice from Microsoft is to assign a separate FQDN for the CAS Array. This CAS array is only used for MAPI connectivity not for EWS/OWA/ECP/autodiscover etc.

If you would like to make the other web services high available you should use load balancing, a hardware load balancing solution is prefered.

In that case have a look at the following technet page:

Regards,
Johan

Thnaks Johan, I've printed that as I haven't seen that one yet. Will make good reading during vacation next week....

Thanks for the responses.
