Hi everyone,

I have an exchange server 2003 and doesn't have "Internet mail setup yet" Before I enable it, I have questions that I know you all can answer. My internal domain name is different from my rigestered domain name. for example.

test.local = internal domain name
prod.org = registered domain name.

What are the proper steps to get it to work so when I enable intrnet mail, All email from jdoe@prod.org will be routed to my exchange server.

This is what i have setup right now.
1: Everything is working fine for 10 users which i created email box less when my users want to send email to other prod.org users it generates NDR.

The question is this i want to use external hosting of my mail boxes but need to use exchange 2003 for backup purposes.  I have a pop3 connector working fine.

Thank you all in advance...

Raza

Raza,

If you want to use the pop3 from you hosting provider and you already setup the receiving part, the only thing you need to do is setup the sending part.

If you want Exchange to send the e-mail the only thing you have to do is create a internet/smtp-connector. To do this complete the following steps:

Startup the Exchange System Manager
Expand the administrative group
Expand the routing group
Click on connectors and expand it
Click on the smtp connector and get the properties of it
Click on the tab general
Choose to use deliver via dns of smarthost (a smarthost is a mailserver from your provider to which you forward all the e-mail going to outside your organisation, when choosing via dns Exchange will check the dns and delivers it directly to the end mailserver)
Under Local Bridgeheads click Add and add the Exchange server that becomes the bridgehead server. (all mail will be send via this server)
Click the address space tab under connectorscope select entire organization. Then click the add button followed by the smtp button. Accept the default which is *. Please check the following twice because else you are an open relay.
If you have choosen to use a smarthost then you need to provide it on the following tab: advanced, then click advanced security, select the proper authentication mode etc. Click OK a few times to close all Windows.

After this restart the Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine and SMTP service

Then change the clients to point to the exchange server as outgoing server.

Please let me know if this helps.

hi mate,

Whether it is Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2003 the concept is same for configuring or publishing the Exchange server in the internet.
