This is my goal. I want to have 1 Exchange 2010 server send/receive email for a specific namespace (invoices.company.com) and have another Exchange 2010 server send/receive email for another domain (company.com). I want both servers to act independently of each other. Both servers reside in the same AD domain. Is this possible?

My thinking is, yes you can have two servers handling this, however, if they're in the same active directory domain, they'll be a part of the same Exchange Organization, so they will not be acting independently with each other.

If they are in the same AD schema (and subsequently the same AD org) they will share the namespace of company.com and invoices.company.com. Only other option (that I haven't played with) is installing Exchange 2010 in Hosted mode...

The "official" answer, that I discovered myself, is there is no way to separate Exchange 2010/2007 servers on the same domain. The plan should be to create a separate forest/domain, residing on it's own subnet (site). Create a non-transitive, one-way trust if necessary to access the servers. Info taken from http://community.priasoft.com/blogs/exchange_migration_team_blog/archive/2010/05/20/using-a-dedicated-exchange-forest-resource-forest.aspx
Installed new forest/domain, with DC and Exchange 2010. Works perfectly!
