I am getting this error message:  The log file 596877 for SERVER\SG1 is missing on the production copy. Continuous replication for this storage group is blocked. If you removed the log file, please replace it. If the log is lost, the passive copy will need to be reseeded using the Update-StorageGroupCopy cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell.  I have tried to reseed the passive copy and it fails with the same error.

Thanks in advance

I ran into a similar issue with SCR.

I just did a reseed and had it delete the existing files

Suspend-StorageGroupCopy "server\StorageGroup" -StandbyMachine StandbyServer

Update-StorageGroupCopy "Server\StorageGroup" -StandbyMachine StandbyServer -DeleteExistingFiles

This should resetup seeding with a fresh start. Keep in mind to have a full backup before doing this as your backup source will not be current during the reseeding.

Thanks for the reply.

I am running the passive copy to an external USB device as we don't have any room locally.  We are running Symantec Livestate Recovery to do full image backups of the server.  I did do a full backup of the machine and the reseed still failed.

What would I use here to suspend and update the storage group copy when it is local? "-StandbyMachine StandbyServer"

You would use this command

Suspend-StorageGroupCopy -Identity "First Storage Group."

Resume-StorageGroupCopy -Identity "First Storage Group."

You basically don't need to use the -standbymachine flag...Here is a really good article about LCR.

OK.  I did a full backup of the mail db with NTBACKUP and ran the following commands:

Suspend-StorageGroupCopy -Identity "First Storage Group."

Update-StorageGroupCopy -Identity "First Storage Group."

LCR still fails saying logfile is missing on the production copy.  Not sure what to do here.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I finally figured it out.  I did a full backup of the Information Store with NTbackup which purged out the logs.  Then enabled LCR and was able to reseed the passive copy.
