Hi All,

I'm having a strange problem with Exchange, that hasn't actually caused any downtime, yet appears to be quite serious. After checking our logs, I have noticed several MSExchangeDSAccess errors. Currently we are running a Clustered Exchange environment in an active/passive mode. Since receiving the first error, I have set the maximum diagnostic logging for MSExchangeDSAccess. Listed below are the error messages recieved:
Event Type:   Warning
Event Source:   MSExchangeDSAccess
Event Category:   LDAP
Event ID: 2115
Computer:  EXCLUSTER

Description:
Process EMSMTA.EXE (PID=1084). DSAccess needs to close a connection to the Domain Controller 127.0.0.1 due to error 0x80040952.

Event Type:   Error
Event Source:   MSExchangeDSAccess
Event Category:   LDAP
Event ID: 2110
User:    N/A
Computer:  EXCLUSTER

Description:
Process EMSMTA.EXE (PID=1084). Could not bind to DS server 127.0.0.1, error 52 at port 389.

Event Type:   Error
Event Source:   MSExchangeDSAccess
Event Category:   Topology
Event ID: 2114
Computer:  EXCLUSTER

Description:
Process EMSMTA.EXE (PID=1084). Topology Discovery failed, error 0x80040952.

Our network infrastructure is not recommended, as both cluster servers are also Domain Controllers. I have been doing some research on these errors, and have come up with little so far. The one interesting suggestion I did come across was to check the service principle name of the Exchange Virtual server using the setspn command. It was suggested that several entries should be listed along these lines:

    ldap/exchange_virtual_server_name
    ldap/exchange_virtual_server_FullQualifiedDomainName

When I did a setspn -l, I discovered that these entries were not listed. It was then suggested to input these entries manually using the -a syntax. I'm not sure whether or not I should do this, as it sounded like it was meant for a standard Exchange install (not clustered).

I might be completely of track, and that's were I'm hoping you guys can come into play!! Any ideas, or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Regards

Dean
