I have Exchange 2007 running on Windows Server 2003 R2. We backup using Backup Exec 12.5 for Windows Server.
I am running out of disk space on the drive that hold our Operations Database. I have 3.25 GB left out of 200 GB.
I have tried moving mailboxes to another drive, and I thought that after doing this and having a backup job run successfully, that Exchange would release some of the disk space, but so far this has not worked, and the disk space continues to decrease.
I am wondering if there is a way to resolve this without either 1) moving the database to a bigger disk or 2) performing an off-line defrag, as this would take the Database offline for too long.
IF anyone can offer suggestions, it would be appreciated.
Exchange doesn't release disk space. The only ways to recover disk space is to run an offline defrag or move all the mailboxes out of a database to another drive, then delete the old database.
hi Alan... Thanks for the response. I had a related question. When I move some of the mailboxes, does the "white space" on the original storage drive, once again become available for the remaining mailboxes to use even though the disk space does not get released, or does that space become unusable.
