hello,

our exchange server 2003 services are stop and when we wanna start them manually, the error appears "Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."...we have checked the dependencies and apart from exchange specific services, all services are running...

"background: our exchange server computer has been crashed..how ever we were able to recover the databases (copy/paste). we have installed win2003 server and exchange 2003 on new machine...after we copy the database (edb and stm) files..the "service issue" begins...."

plz help..its urgent...

You must first repair the old exchange DB files:
1. eseutil /p priv1.edb
2. eseutil /p pub1.edb

then you must defragment the DBs:
1. eseutil /d priv1.edb
2. eseutil /d pub1.edb

then test the DBs on the server:
isinteg -s (servername) -fix -test alltests.

Note: regarding the background it is supposed that you built the new computer as match as you can the same name, configuration and OS version and updates level, od the old one.

hi mate,

Hard repair should be our last options.

My first step :
> Check the status of the database by running eseutil /mh if the status show clean shutdown then you should not go with eseutil /p.
> If it is showing clean shutdown, rename the mdbdata folder to mdbdata old and create a new folder called as mdbdata and then check whether your service is running fine or not.

> And even please post event log i.e applicaiton log as well
