I have a Windows 2000 server with Exchange 2000 on it. I have built a Windows 2003 and have Exchange 2007. I am getting (The domain controller is running operating system version 5.0 (2195) Service Pack 4. The minimum version required is 5.2 (3790) Service Pack 1) when I try to move mailboxes. I used Exchange Best Practice before I even installed Exchange 2007 and had to fix a few errors. I did all of the adprep commands on the server that is running Exchange 2000 and had to fix a few problems also. Am I getting this error because the server that has Exchange 2000 is not a Windows 2003 sever?

Hi,

Yes this is caused by the reason you do not have a DC with the required roles running Windows 2003.

Have a look at the following page, here is descriped exactly what you need:

I moved all  5 roles to my new 2003 server which is a dc from the 2000 server. When I ran Exchange Best Practices it gave me the errors about the schema was on a 2000 server and about mixed mode and some other ones. I fixed them all before I started the Exchange 2007 install. Everything went good until I was ready to move mailboxes.

Is Exchange 2000 installed on a domain controller or a member server?
If it is installed on a domain controller then you will continue to get this error. The only way round it I have found is to build another Exchange 2000/2003 server and the move the mailboxes to that, then remove Exchange from the domain controller correctly using add/remove programs. Finally move the mailboxes to the Exchange 2007 server. DO NOT even consider running DCPROMO on the Exchange server as a shortcut, as that will simply cause problems.

Simon.

I did run dcpromo before I installed exchange and waited a day before I started the install. I did remember that if the mail attendant was not running it will not work. Sure enough it was set to automatic but was not started. I started it and then I was able to move the mailboxes. All 494 of them. It took over 5 hours but when it was done everything was working fine. I did have to setup some connectors but messages in and out were working great. Thanks for everyones help.
