We are currently running Exchange 5.5 on a Windows 2000 server with all current SP's. We were running out of disk space on the old server so I was attempting to install a new server in the same organization with the same server name. Exchange didn't like that I was naming it the same and asked if I wanted to delete the old one. Good news, I stopped all services on the old machine and did a complete offline back up of both exchsrvr folders on the C and E drives...
I then removed the old server from the domain and did all the steps to restore to the same site and same organization. Looked like things were going well until I put the pub.edb and priv.edb back into their respective folders and ran the isinteg to make sure all was good. I have done this process several other times with out losing anything but when I attempt to start the services, the IS won't start. It generates a system error that when I researched it led me to the following....
MAPI_E_NOT_FOUND. I think I may have NOT installed something I should have and now I can't see the recipients in my site container and can't get into the IS for anything. I also ran the eseutil on both the priv and pub with no luck. I am desparate since my boss is out of town for the week and these folks need their email online as quickly as possible.

Is it possible that this error is linked to the IIS or IMS? I am not familiar and don't recall what all was running on the old server?
Please help as soon as humanly possible...!
Thanks "[Eek!]"

OK here are the exact error messages in the event viewer, I didn't have them at home with me this weekend.

Event ID 1201 MsExchnageIS Error 0x8004010f reading/decrypting the [type] attribute from the Microsoft EXchange Server Directory Service.

Event ID 5000 General
Unable to initialize Information Store. Error 0x8004010f

PLEASE HELP! "[Eek!]" "[Confused]"

Hi,

Is it possible for you to get the old server online again??

I would recommend that if this is possible you install the new server with a new name and then move the mailboxes to this new server and then follow this to remove the old server from the Organization - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;152959 - (Outlook will be automatically redirected if you leave the old server online for at least a week)

I had tried that previously with the same errors so I have taken the old one completely offline and am just working with the new one. I have a complete backup of the exchsrvr folders and have run all the eseutil's and isinteg's that have been recommended in the many Microsoft articles. I am totally at my wits end and am going to uninstall everything on this server and wait a bit, then reinstall now that I have the IIS installed to see if that makes any difference. Unless you have a more lucrative suggestion. I am totally desperate!

Hi,

Is your old Exchange Server Drive configuration and partition the same with your new Server?
Make sure they are same Hard Drive and partition configuration, otherwise your re-store will be fine but your Exchange services will not start like the one you had experience.
