Hi guys,

New to the forum so please be patient. I need to merge two exchange databases within the same organisation. I don't know why they were seperate to start off with. We inherited this from exiting service provider. So please reply with what info you guys need to assist me with this. All your input will be greatly appreciated. The info I have is:
1. same domain name on both servers.
2. Server B relies on Server S to recieve and send emails. (Server S: hub transport)
3. When you view EMC you see all mailboxes on both servers.
4. database sizes are different
5. know for a fact that it is not a HA setup as the servers have been down indvidually and when the Server B was down Server S worked fine but when Server S was down Server B could not send/recieve mails.

Assuming you have enough disk space on S to host all mailboxes, then simply move the mailboxes from the DB on server B to a DB on server S.  When you've done that (and again assuming there are no other resources hosted on server B - like public folders) then you can decomission server B.

Thanks bud,

The question is how do:
1. I know which mailboxes are held in which database as in EMC (on both servers) all the mailboxes are visible?
2.  I move the mailboxes from one server to another?

Further after I move the mailboxes can I have the Server B as a replica of Server S for HA?

much appreciated,

1) In EMC, under Recipient Configuration, right-click on 'Mailbox' and select 'view' -> 'Add/Remove columns...'  - you'll find 'Database' listed then, add it to the view.

And to answer your un-numbered question regarding HA, see http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2010/high-availability-recovery/uncovering-exchange-2010-database-availability-groups-dags-part1.html

I suggest you have a good general read around the features of Exchange 2010, as most of the questions you are asking are already answered by the excellent articles already available on this (and other) websites.

I answered that already - read about setting up a DAG.
