5 Back end Exchange servers 1 Front end server. All exchange 2003 sp2 Our message delivery properties are set to 10240 on all servers. including front end. I need to increase this size so that users can attach and send/receive up to 15 MB I have set the back end server I am on to 15000 and still cannot attach file more than 10 MB. I have also tried to set my user properties to 15000 and still unable to attach file larger that 10 MB Does any of the services have to be restarted for the change to take place? if I change this setting on back end or front end servers do they become the same across the organization or only on the local server?

If you have made the change in Global Settings then it applies across the entire Exchange org. If you have made the change elsewhere then it may only apply to the store that you made the change on. The change will be picked up eventually, however if you want to force it then you will need to restart the Information Store Service. Simon.

The task for me is to make only one server to allow 15 MB and rest should stay 10 MB by default. If Global overwrites all servers in organization what is my best route here? setting global to unlimited and then manually set size for each server in SMTP settings? What is the best practice?

Setting the limit on SMTP isn't going to help, as that will not affect internal email. If the setting is to be applied to one server then you don't want to set it globally. The way I work is that global is the highest setting, never unlimited though. Then I restrict down at server, store or user level. SMTP Server service equals the highest setting currently in use, unless you have a different policy for external email. I have worked in sites where you can send 20mb internally but only 10mb externally. I work on the basis that most restrictive wins, so global must be the highest, otherwise you will have inconsistent results. Simon.

Lets say we will enable global to 15 MB. then I would need to set other 4 servers each store to 10 MB, correct? I could not find the place where you change the size per store, where is it?

My mistake. Got carried away with typing my examples. You cannot set it on a per store basis. Simon.

in this case i do not see a solution but only have all servers set to 15. since SMTP settings will not cover internal e-mail

The only option I can think of is to place restrictions on the users throughout using something like admodify.net and then change the users who need a higher limit. This flow chart at Microsoft shows how the limits are imposed: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996221%28EXCHG.65%29.aspx The only other thing I thought if was System Policies - but I don't think that manages message size restrictions, only store. Simon.
