My company is adopting a new message retention policy. I need to be able to differentiate between a message that is sent from an internal recipient versus a 3rd party. Messages sent from a 3rd party will have 1 retention period and messages sent from internal users will have a separate one.
Looking at retention tags and retention policies I see no way to make this distinction in the policy.
I was thinking I could use a transport rule and tag messages from "Outside the organization" with a specific retention tag, but again, not possible.
So, my last thought was to set a message classification using a transport rule. I can do that. I then have all messages from outside parties classified differently than internal only messages. That said, I'm unsure how to apply any form of retention policy based upon message classification.
Any suggestions, either generally, or specifically with how I'm looking into this right now?
