Exchange 2003 -

I am not able to get the system attendant to start, I have read lots of posts and still am unable to find a solution.

I receive this error when trying to view my server from the system manager:

Operation : retrieving mount information
ID no: C1040721
Exchange System Manager

In my event viewer application I am getting an MS ExchangeDSAccess. Event ID : 2114
Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=228). Topology Discovery failed, error 0x8007077f.

I seem to have no DNS problems, atleast as far as I can tell. What can I do to get the system attendant started ???

Thanks

yeah.. its our primary exchange server.. we don't have any other ones.. aslo, when i try to start microsoft exchange system attendant the following message pops up, "The Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service."

Thanks for the link, but it doesn't seem like we have DNS or ldap problems.. could it be anything else?

If I was to check and make sure exchange is using the right DNS server, how would I verify this?

We also have a split brain DNS setup with 2 external and 2 Internal servers. Kind of like the problem which was posted in the link above.

If this was the problem, how would I make exchange query the correct DNS server?

Thanks,

We are college students who have been thrown into a production network which uses Exchange. Everything was working good and all of a sudden this happened. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If I right click on my server and select "Start Mailbox Management Process" or try to select the "Directory Access" tab I get the following error:

There are no bindings.
Facility: Win32
ID no:c00706b6
Exchange System Manager

The directory access tab is grayed out and I can't see any domain controllers?

Make sure on the NIC of the exchange it is pointing ONLY to internal DNS servers. For internet resolution enter the IP addresses of the external DNS servers as forwarders on your internal DNS.

Yep, NIC is pointed to right DNS servers, the servers are forwarding properly to the DMZ.

DNS seems to be working ok, althouth it is strange how I am getting the BIND error. .

I am able to successfully perform nslookups from the machine. Do you think repairing my machine using a ghost image and then loading a backup of the mailboxes would help?
Or does this sound like a bigger problem on the network?

Thanks for all the help

Ok, I got it fixed. . . Yay!

I now have domain controllers in my directory access tab. I think something weird happened, where it showed the second NIC, which had nothing connected to it was showing up as active, I disabled this.... and a day later we are able to start the system attendant and login through OWA.

Thanks for the help
