Was hired as a hardware guy and became a quasi-sysadmin over time. I've been asked to internalise our e-mail services. I'm not exactly extensively trained with this stuff, so please bear with me.We're currently running Exchange Server 2003 and using a POP3 connector to download e-mail from our ISP's mail servers. The switchover should be as simple as changing our domain's MX record to point at our local server, disabling the POP3 connector, and configuring our SMTP connector (any suggested reading on this?), correct? What about testing though? Is it possible to make a non-POP3 account and add our server to the existting MX record (with a different priority?) and see if that account recieves e-mail? I'd just hate to take down the POP3 stuff only to find out that there's a local problem. Also, what is a "Smart Host" (currently pointing to my ISP in the Exchange Server settings), and do I need to do anything with that in the switchover? Here're some of the articles I've found helpful, but have yet to simplify things enough such that I'm fully confident in going forward with this: http://www.petri.co.il/configure_mx_records_for_incoming_smtp_email_traffic.htm http://searchexchange.techtarget.com/general/0,295582,sid43_gci1164488,00.html#migrating http://forums.msexchange.org/m_1800473452/mpage_1/key_record%2csmtp%2cpop3/tm.htm#1800473612 http://forums.msexchange.org/Migrating_from_POP3_Connector_to_full_exchange/m_1800465109/tm.htm Thanks for any advice!
