I am looking for a way to use the performance counters in Windows to monitor the Exchange database size.  Is there a counter that does this?

There is no counter to monitor exchange database growth to my knowledge.
you could use some scritps to report the file size of edb and stm.

quite a lot of them are available on internet.

Any script is good.

search http://microsoft.com/technet/scriptcenter for a script to report a file size.

i would also advise to keep an eye on white space - event id 1221
