Basically, the subject says exactly what I am looking for. I want to somehow setup a monitoring service, that monitors incoming replies to sent mail, and then stop the SMTP service (or in some other way stop the server from sending more mails). If this can be done by domain (ie. hotmail.com) it would be excellent.

I am very new to Exchange 2007, and also in the world of sending mail at this level in the process so pardon if I am sounding like a newbie or retard :)

The solution I have imagined is this:

I somehow have a powershell script manage the monitoring of the log files, and if it encounters a 421 code it stops/pauses the SMTP service, and thus prevents the server from sending any more mails.

Can you setup rules for the message que so that it can filter out certain domains at any given time, that is once the code 421 is found, it will enable a filter?

Is this a plausible solution? What should I be careful about doing in this setup? Is this even possible?

Any help and feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Edit: After writing here, I found information about the Exchange 2007 server role called Edge Transport Server. From what I can see, you can setup rules on both outbound and inbound messages. Would it be possible to setup rules to help me with this problem. So that if a smtp server sends a 421 reply, I can enable another filter that would permit any more messages to be sent to this domain?
