Hi, Just install a seperate one as an extra server, then configure it, move all mailboxes etc. Test if everything works fine and then remove the old Exchange server.

Thanks my friend Since exchange server is an Additional Domain Controller and after installing another exchange server if I remove old server from domain, Domain Controller will search ADC for synchronization isn’t it? And we have about 100 users, I would have to reconfigure outlook & their PSTs again isn’t it? Do you have any idea about this command (Drive: \Setup /m:recoverserver /donotrestart) Does it work without any problem? Regards,

Hi, No as long as you ensure that both servers are in the air till all users are migrated you don't have to reconfigure the users. This because on the AD object the location of the users mailbox is defined so when starting up Outlook it will see that the user is moved to another server and will connect to that server.

your friend is not right and what i've mentioned to you before is migrate to new servers and not reserving the same server names but if u wanna reserve the same server name you can start reading from this detailed technet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb332343.aspx

Hi, Ahmad is right this is also an option, but keep in mind that you will need to remove the DC manually from your Active Directory etc.

Hi, If you choose the way Ahmad mentioned it's just copying the right database that contains the information of the public folder. The GAL will be generated once the server is online. When choosing to install Exchange first, setup the synchronisation of the public folders. This can be done by creating a Public Folder DB on the new server and perform the following command: MoveAllReplicas.ps1 -Server Server01 -NewServer Server02 (see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb331970.aspx )

I Agree with jveldh the GAL will be created automatically. if you have Exchange 2007 SP1 on your old server you can also use the GUI to migrate the PF from the old server to the new one by setting it as a Replica good luck in your deployment Thanks

Hi Every one Specially Ahmed & jveldh. Now we have new HP DL-380 G6 Server and it’s time to move exchange2007 from old to new server Hardware. Before moving I would like to ask one more question. If I install & configure second exchange2007 server with in the domain and move some users (not all) from old server to new server than all users will be able to send & receive emails or not? Thanks & Regards,

Hello, I just went through this for a client in a single server environment. Just a light overview.... 1. Prep and install the server (Hub Transport, Client Access and Mailbox Server roles). 2. Configure the new server as a "Source Server" in your "Send Connectors". - This will allow you to send mail directly from the new server. Incoming mail will be routed through your old server to the new server as long as you have your external SMTP connections pointed into the old server. I would make this the external SMTP cut your last step in your migration plan. 3. Create your mailbox store and public folder store if you use public folders. I would configure this new mailbox store to use the new public folder store after you have configure public replication. 4. With Exchange SP1 you can use a GUI Public Folders screen to configure replication of all public folders including your system folders. I think there is also a PS script to do this. 5. At this time you can move one or two mailboxes for testing off of the new server. TEST TEST TEST 6. When you have moved all of your mailboxes and are ready to move forward with decommissioning the first server do the following. 7. Make sure you unmount the databases on the first server both the mailbox and public folder stores. If you have missed anything replication or mailbox moves you will know it right away with people yelling at you. :) 8. After a period of time with the databases umounted a few days you can feel comfortable that it is now time to start the decommissioning. Mount the databases and begin with removing the mailbox database on the old server. 9. Run the above script that was listed moveallreplicas to move "rehome" all of the public folders to the new server. 10. Remove the old public folder store. 11. Make sure you configure the new server as the offline address book generator through the ESM. 12. When you go to remove Exchange it will tell you if there is anything you are missing that will not allow you to remove the software. I hope this helps.

Hi melry Thanks a lot In my scenario, our MX record is pointing to our firewall device; exchange server is not directly connected with external network. Only firewall internal IP is assigned to exchange server gateway. Can I configure send & receive connectors on both servers and send & receive emails from both servers if I move some users from old to new server. Could you please tell me how to configure the new server as the offline address book generator through ESM? Regards,

Hello, Yes that is what I meant change you firewall connection so that you are delivering SMTP from the Internet directly to the new server should be your last step. If you have loaded the CAS role on the new server it will receive mail with no problems. You just need to make sure that the new server is listed as a Source Server on the Send Connector. In your ESM under Organization Configuration - Mailbox - Offline Address Book. This was one of the last steps I did once the mailbox store and public folder stores had been moved. If you tried to uninstall Exchange on the old box and this setting was not fixed the setup would notify you to fix it. I hope this helps.... just remember take your time and test before jumping in head first.

Hello, The way I have seen this work is as follows: 1. The existing Exchange server will have Internet mail delivered to the server through the firewall. Any mail destined for a mailbox on the new server will be forwarded to the new server. **This is why one of the last steps is to change the SMTP rule on your firewall to point to the new server (after all mailboxes have been moved and your are ready to decomm the existing server). 2. Since you have configured the new server as a "Source Server" along side of your existing server this new server will also be able to send mail out on its own without forwarding through the existing server. I hope this helps....

Hi Folks I am experimenting third option to migrate exchange2007 with windows2003 & ADC sp1 to new hardware with same name. I just took the image of both servers using third party software. 1: windows 2003 with Exchange 2007 SP1 configured as ADC 2: windows 2003 configured as DC In test environment Users can send & receive email without reconfiguration of their outlook but cannot access their old emails. In order to access old emails, reconfiguration of outlook is required. How to avoid reconfiguration of outlook? I took image one week before now I want to restore latest ntbackup on test environment. It shows restoration is successful but unable to mount database. (About 15 GB Data within 3 minutes strange) Please tell me how to mount mail box database & public folder database I followed this link http://www.theemailadmin.com/2009/06/exchange-server-2007-backup-and-recovery-part-2-%E2%80%93-mailbox-servers/ Regards,
