we are researching the steps to move an exchange 2003 server to an entirely new server. Can anybody shed any light on this process?

Dear install a new exchange server on a new server but it should be in same exchange organisation and same administrative group, after that simply start moving all the mail boxes to the new mail box store, then create replicatoin partner(new exhchange) for public folders which are on old exhcange server after they are in-sync then simply remove the old server from replicatoin then make the new server the primary or default server then simply uninstall the old server but before uninstall shut it down and check if all the clients are working fine Regards Qaiser Ahmed

Thanks for the help because you pointed me in the right direction. We installed a new exchange server and moved the new mailboxes no problem. When we shut down the original exchange server though, we could not access our mail from the new exchange server and received the following error:
The MAD monitoring thread was unable to read its configuration from the DS, error 0x80010002
A little background.
We originally had one server with exchange, AD, DNS, (DC). We added two new DC's and it seemed to replicate the AD fine. We added a new server with Exchange 2003 and were able to move the mailboxes from the old to the new no problem. We are accessing mail from the new from outlook clients. When we shutdown the old server though, we get the previous error messages and the new exchange server will not run.....
can anybody shed any light on this. thanks in advance for your help.

The first server in an Exchange Admin group has some special functions in an Exchange org.
How to remove the first Exchange Server 2003 computer from the administrative group http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822931
