ok so im almost there.
I am trying to move a database from the old server to the new server. both are seperate but both have the same domain alias.

I want to move the user/accounts/mail.

how can I do this? I followed:

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/moving-exchange-server-2007-database-mailbox-servers.html

but not sure if I should create the same user mailbox on the new server as I would think it would overwrite what is stored on the mailbox database.

what do I do?

Hi Ahmed,

Can you explain which version you are using as an old server and new server? You can also move mailboxes with Move-Mailbox cmdlet set command from one server.

Hi Marshal:

both are using MS Exchange 2007 with one difference - the new server is using SP3 the old is using SP2 I believe (or even SP1).

The problem I have is as follows and not sure how to do this:

Both of the servers are seperate and have their own domains (even though they are the same domain name.... i.e: company.local).

I want to migrate/move the mailbox from the old server to the new server. The emails that exist on the old server should "appear" on the new server for that user account in question.

How can I do this?

Actually when you want to forklift a database from one server to another, you must make sure the OS version\edition and its SP level and most importantly the Exchange version\edition and SP level ( including the update rollup) have to be the same! You mentioned that the exchange SP versions were not the same so I strongly recommend you make this new server identical to the original where the database was taken from!

Thanks

you are correct however for me, it is not feasible at this stage. any other suggestions?

I cant believe how difficult it can be just to copy over mailboxes (but appreciate how far advanced we have become)
usually it should be going up SP's/patches would be fine, but not down the way.

The editions are the same - its just the SP levels differ with the new server having the latest SP.

ANY other (easy if possible) way of copying over the mailboxes for the user(s) in question?

Another option that I can suggest is to spend a little bit of money and purchase Ontrack PowerControl to actually extract the data from the database to PST files. I beleive it doesnt even need an exchange server installed.
