Hello,

We have an Exchange 2003 system and have been adding Exchange 2007 servers into it as part of a migration to Exchange 2007 - we have now comissioned the CAS and HUB servers and have decomissioned the old 2003 front end servers.

I now have the envious task of moving 30,000 mailbox accounts over to new mailbox servers on Exchange 2007.  We need to do this process when the users are logged off, server by server and I am also mindful of the transaction log disks filling up in the meantime.

Exchange 2003 gives me a great view of whose logged in and out on each server but as I need to use the Exchange 2007 console to do the user moves, I am having to correlate between the two views to work out who I can move.

I am sure there must be an easier way using powershell and just wondered what experiences anyone had had of moving a large volume of users?  I am busy researching this anyway, but hoped someone had some pointers at the very least.

Hi,

There is a Get-MailboxStatistics cmdlet that will provide a LastLogOnTime and LastLogoffTime.  In my opinion the data gathered from that cmdlet could throw off some results since you are assuming it means exactly as it is stated.  From my tests, the LastLogOffTime is stamped when you click on an email and read it and go idle.  It is stamped when you click Check New Messages.  But, the user doesnt actually log off and if you have Outlook running at work, it might refresh from time to time which will also give false stamps.  I just wanted to cross that off as a viable solution for you so you dont waste your time on it.  The best way to move mailboxes is to inform users that at this time frame, their mailboxes will be inaccessible and under maintenance.  This way, you dont have to guess at whos on.

Thanks - that's really useful - yeah, that seems like a better bet - we have thought about doing it that way.  The hard part is the size and diversity of the organisation, but we'll get there.  Thanks again.
