After reading many different methods of setting up DAGs I finally got round to installing a system. I am only looking for opinions on my set up below to see if I could do anything differently. The aim is to provide mailbox availability in case of a long term (more than a few hours) site/server failure. I have 3 geographically dispersed sites(UK, IE,DE) all connected via VPN My original setup has each site hosting its own local mailbox/cas server. In each site I added an additional mailbox server for the DAG. I cannot add multiple servers in each site and as each server can only be in one DAG, I have created a DAG group as follows: DAG Name: DAG Group Member Servers: MBX-IE, MBX-DE, MBX-UK Witness Server is a file server in the IE site MBX-IE - Hosts active copy of database for lcoal users, plus a copy of MBX-DE and MBX-UK MBX-DE - Hosts active copy of database for lcoal users, plus a copy of MBX-IE and MBX-UK MBX-UK - Hosts active copy of database for lcoal users, plus a copy of MBX-DE and MBX-IE I have replication working ok, but I have disabled automatic failover, as I don't want databases switching over when there is only a WAN failure. I have tested the manual failover by: take MBX-IE offline on MBX-DE which is 2nd in the activation preference, manually activate Database Copy This seems to work ok, and users can get their messages from MBX-DE. After bringing MBX-IE back online again, I can switch the database back again.
