I was not able to send the email from my internal domain user account owa 2007 to outside say yahoo. But had no problems sending mail to internal created domain accounts.I discovered that there is not default send connector created. I am having confusion on how to create send connector. My internal domain is gera.local and I created a mx record for my exchange namely exch1.gera.local.I created a send connector, type internet, put * in address space to route to all domains, put use dns mx records(only record I created is fqdn of my exchange   >>exch1.gera.local )so .My exch1 is hubtransport so associated that. But I am not able to send the mail to yahoo still.
what could be problem, did I create the send connector and the only mx record right? Please help

I am using
server 2008(hyperv as base) 192.168.0.1(nat)
dc1 192.168.0.200
exch1 192.168.0.205

As i read, you want to sent an e-mail from you inernal network to the outside, internet.

Is it only yahoo you cannot sent to or just all domains ?

Cause you can route trough dns or you can have a connector relaying true your provider, basically used when hosting it at home. Atleast i did that with 2003 a couple of years ago when testing stuff at home.

Creating a Send Connector is pretty basic and does not require very much static information about your network as your DNS will do all the work.  Make sure the local DNS settings applied to the Windows server are being used to send mail.

What matters is if you have an EDGE Transport server or not.  Let's consider that you do not have one.  This is how you would proceed.

If you are using SMTP for mail transport then Create a new send connector under the Hub Transport area of your Organizational configuration.  Choose Internet as the connector type.  Next you will be asked for which address spaces that mail can be sent to.  An asterisk (*) is the qualifier to allow this connector to send mail globally.

Next you will be asked if you would like to use DNS to route outbound mail or if you would like to use a smart host or Edge Transport.  Chose the DNS option.  Your Hub Transport Server will be named in the next screen.  Move through the menus and thats it.    Test it out by sending mail to an external domain.

If you have an EDGE server then you will need to use the Micrsoft Exchange Command Shell to subscribe to the Edge Transport service from your hub transport server.  This is a fairly tricky manuever and should be well researched .  This is that article that I used when I implemented an Edge configuration last year.

Hope this helps.  Good Luck!

thanks, this is exactly what I did. But I am still not able to send mail from my internal created domain to externals like yahoo etc.Someone told me that with at&t dsl connection at home and test domain created at home, you can't send email to the external domains like yahoo. Is that true?I was under impression that you can send email to yahoo but,for sending mails from yahoo to the internally created domain, you have to be registered. please guide. Thanks

I'm not familiar with any restrictions in Exchange 2007 or with AT & T DSL that prohibit Exchange from sending mail to particular domains.  If you followed the steps above and used "*" as the value for outbound domains then there are no restrictions as the server level.

As stated above i do not know how AT&T works. Here, netherlands, i have experienced some restrictions as well with my provider. I was unable to sent e-mails to *@hotmail.com, but i was able to sent to other domains, never tried yahoo though.

But what i always did was relay trough there mail server, as relaying trough dns doesn't work cause the port is blocked :(

Anyway, had same problem with hotmail.

Hi there,

Could you please elaborate more on how you did it isp's( whose mail server??) without doing it through dns. I am in usa and dns option simply does not work with my at&t home connection

Thanks
Puneet

Offcourse, i did it as following.

You have basically 2 options, to route it trough dns, but port 25 is blocked :( So the only option that is left is to relay it trough your isp's mail server, as that is possible cause you are on the network of your isp.

In my case back then i had tiscally, a local network isp providing me back then with internet. The outgoing mailserver of my isp was 'mail.tiscali.nl'. So i said to the connector relay it through this mail server 'mail.tiscali.nl'. That worked for me, except for some of the providers like hotmail in my case.
