Hi. This is my first time here. Please, treat me gently ^_^

I'm working at a small firm and we have an internal network with a Domain Controller. The DC is set up for internal network with domain "novel.alt". But since our current mail server doesn't support shared folders, contacts, etc. we decided to move to an Exchange server. So I installed a Windows 2003 x64 Enterprise server and put the Exchange 2007 in it. I found a lot of stuff on the internet and was able to configure the mailboxes and other stuff that are needed, but I couldn't find one thing. The mailboxes are like Admin@novel.alt, username@novel.alt. But our real domain name is (just an exmaple) novelstyle.com, so I need to 'tell' the Exchange that the users should be username@novelstyle.com. Also I'm not sure if it was from our previous server, but we could access webmail at mx.novelstyle.com. I think Exchange was using mail.domainname.com, how can I change it to be mx. again?

Is it possible to make that changes without having to make the server from scratch?

Welcome!

You need to make sure to set up an accepted domain for novelstyle.com and make that the default one.  You can continue to have the novel.alt in there if you want.  In the EMC, Go to Organizational Configuration>Hub Transport>Accepted Domains.  Add the novelstyle.com and make it the default.

You'll want to look at the Email Address Policies in the next tab over...go through the default one even and adjust what email domain you give out to recipient objects.  Chances are, you'll want to do novelstyle.com instead of novel.alt.

As for your Web Mail set up...you're going to want to make sure your public DNS for mx.novelstyle.com points to the public IP of your new exchange box.  If you have your public dns managed somewhere via a web portal or something, you'd do it there.  If you run your own public DNS servers, you'll want to change the entries there.  Check with your network admin if you have one.  As for Exchange...make sure you go into Server Config>Client Access> and click on the owa directory for your CAS.  Change the external name you want...https://mx.novelstyle.com/owa.  You'll want to make sure you have some type of SSL cert on there.  GoDaddy has pretty cheap ones you can buy.
