New CAS post or pre 2010 to 2013 migration

Our current setup is a single-server Exchange 2010SP3 in a mixed 2003/2008 domain.

I have two tasks that I'm about to start on.

1. Add new Exchange CAS server and remove CAS role from running Exchange 2010 server.
2. Upgrade to Exchange 2013.

Now this got me thinking that I might wanna do this the other way around meaning starting by migrating the 2010 single-server to a 2013 single-server and then after this and the 2010 server has been removed, add a new Exchange 2013 CAS server and remove the CAS role from the running 2013 server.

Any thoughts on what might be the best way to do this will be very welcome :)

If you have made your plans to migrate to 2013 then please build a new server install exchange 2013.
you can do the rest later.
