I just finished installing exch 2007 in a exch 2003 environment. Mail is running fine on both.

I'm having issues with owa. If a users accesses owa on the server that their mailbox is on there is no problem for both E2003 & E2007 users.

Scenario 1: E2003 user goes to E2007\owa or E2007\exchange it says it can't find the user instead of redirecting to E2003\exchange

"Outlook Web Access could not find a mailbox for domain\user. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization and tell them the following: The mailbox may be stored on a Microsoft Exchange 2000 or Microsoft Exchange 2003 server, or the Active Directory user account was created recently and has not yet replicated to the Active Directory site where this Client Access server is hosted"

Scenario 2: E2007 user goes to E@003\exchange logs on and then gets an authentication popup for the E2007 server

Once it is all tested and running I want to point all owa traffic to the E2007.

Note all basic roles are on the E2007 server.

Thanks

So you have MBX/HT/CAS on one box and a 2003 MBX on the other box.
It's working as designed. The CAS will only look at it's local mailboxes.
You have to deploy a CAS on a separate box just like a FE/BE configuration.

You can leave the CAS on the current 2007 server but you need a CAS for the 2003 and 2007 users to access.

I a bit shocked, everything I've read, including tutorials on this site and an MS Exchange class and no one mentioned that I'd need a separate CAS server. This is just a simple 2003-2007 transition.

So, what I need to do is set up a virtual server and install the CAS role. Once all the mailboxes are moved to the E2007 box can I then "cleanly" decommission the virtual CAS box and just use the MBX/HT/CAS box?

Are there any tricks I should know about for the CAS install?

Thanks for the help Mark I appreciate it.

Scott
