OWA 5.5 won't install on Win2K member server - 21.Feb.2001 6:22:00 PM

We are trying to install Exchange 5.5 on a Windows 2000 member server in an NT 4 domain. We have succeeded, except OWA won't install. It keeps asking for NT 4 hotfixes. It bombs right at the component selection portion of the setup. When we click ok on the error message it unchecks OWA and will install the rest of the Exchange Server components, but not OWA. Help!

Have you checked that the IIS service or component is running?

Perhaps:

1. antivirus is preventing installation.
2. you have installed MS Security Toolkit and IISLockdown and URLScan on box, which is preventing installation.

I fixed this problem by installing exchange 5.5 sp4.

I have the exact same problem. I cannot install OWA 5.5 on a Win2k Server (SP2) because it asks for Windows NT4 hotfixes to be installed first.
I don't understand how you can install SP4 for Exchange 5.5 to fix the problem because you can't install SP4 on a machine that doesn't have Exchange 5.5 on it (which is what my problem is to begin with). If this worked for you could you please elaborate on how you accomplished this.

I was finally able to find the solution to the problem on Microsoft's website. The problem seems to only be with the "Select" version of Microsoft Exchange. In order to solve the problem you must copy the Exchange install folder from the CD to your hard drive and rename either SRVRMAX.EXE or SRVRMIN.EXE to SETUP.EXE.
Then run setup.exe from your hard drive and it installs OWA without any problems.
