I am trying to setup SSL on my exchange server. I have already installed my certificates in IIS and I can turn on SSL and go to https://webmail.mydomain.com and successfully login using MyDomain\username. I want to be able to go to webmail.mydomain.com and login using username and password without entering the domain name. I am able to do this successfully on 5 other Exchange servers in my organization. The only difference is this server is clustered. I used the article on microsofts website to allow redirect from http:// to https://. The article is found here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839357. The only difference is that the cluster uses a Exchange Virtual Website instead of the default website. So in order to properly setup the as the above website states, I had to make one change. For the CustomErrors folder to be visible in the website I had to right click on the Exchange Virtual Server website and click New then chose Virtual Directory. I then pointed it to the folder called CustomErrors that I created. This incorporated the CustomErrors Folder into the site. Then I went in folder and proceded to make changes as the article suggests. Unfortunately this does not redirect the site at all and I am very stumped. Has anyone ever run into this situation and been able to resolve it. I am using Exchange 2003 SP2 in an active/passive environment. I am NOT using a front end server as I have never needed on in the past. Thank you, Justin

I would suggest a frontend server. I never design a cluster without one. Makes life a lot easier when it comes to dealing with remote access for OWA, RPC over HTTPS and Exchange ActiveSync. I operate a simple rule - once you have more than one Exchange server you should have a frontend server. Simon.

My setup is a little odd. We have 6 different offices with an exchange server in each location. All mail comes in to our main office and then it is moved to the appropriate office over our WAN. Each office has its own internet connection that it utilizes to transfer the SMTP traffic out. Users at each office uses their own server at their location to login and get their mail with Outlook Web Access. I dont really know how I could make this work with one front end server and I couldnt afford 6 more servers for the ideal solution. As I said before the configuration works fine in 5 locations. It is just the one with the cluster that is given me some issues.

I don't know where you got the idea that you required 5 additional servers from. If the standalone servers are operating correctly then leave them alone. I was referring to a frontend server for the cluster servers only - although the frontend server would work for the other servers as well. Furthermore I never make the change that you are trying to do as I simply never open port 80 to the internet. I do not want anonymous traffic coming anywhere near the Exchange servers, even if it is redirected. Simon.
