I'm having trouble getting OWA to work externally on a non-standard HTTPS port.
The provider uses 443 for management purposes on the router so I created a forward in the router from port 444 pointing to 443 on the Exchange server.

Internally connecting to https://InternalIP/owa works without problems.
Connecting externally to https://ExternalIP:444/owa works so far that I get a remark that the self-created certificate is not trusted (as is to be expected) and I accept it.
Then it's after a couple of seconds HTTP error 404.

Do I need to change anything on the OWA web application if the initial connection port is 444 instead of 443?

Thanks for any input!

I would suggest checking the IIS log file to see what's happening. But rather than map one port to another at the router, I think it would be easier to configure the server to listen on port 444 for SSL.

Thanks for your input.

Agreed. That seems the easy way but we're talking an SBS 2008 server here and changing the default HTTPS port wil certainly break other functionality in the SBS server, that's a nogo.

I could ask the provider to give up the 443 port but still wonder why a port forward seems to work for 'normal' tcp applications but not for HTTPS traffic.

Can you find the 404 (or even a group of them) in the IIS log files for the server? Can you paste it here?
