Hi All
My OWA backend wont connect to the back end/ global catalogue. The server pings the hosts names fine, of the Global catalogue server and the exchange server.
USers can connect to the front end and get the login screen but wont go any further than that.
Can anyone suggest where would be a good place to start looking in getting it reconnected.

Is it located in a DMZ? What HTTP error do you get when it tries to establish a connection to the BE server?

It is in a DMZ however i have allowed the firewall to allow full traffic from OWA to the LAN, where axchange and the PDC resides.
When i goto the url, i get the yes box to use the certificate, i then get the login box for which i then put in the username and password, and then wait eventually i get a search engine that tries to resolve it that cant.
Its as if it doesn't know how to resolve the Usernames and passwords and then to load the inbox.

Ok i looking at IIS i can see that it is trying to look at the M: drive /MBX directory. This virtual drive isnt being created for some reason.
Looking at the event log i get this...
Event Type: Error Event Source: NETLOGON Event Category: None Event ID: 5719 Date: 20/07/2005 Time: 06:24:13 User: N/A Computer: OWA Description: No Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain Controller is available for domain ******. The following error occurred: The RPC server is unavailable. Data: 0000: 17 00 02 c0 ...+
Event Type: Error Event Source: NETLOGON Event Category: None Event ID: 5783 Date: 20/07/2005 Time: 11:34:05 User: N/A Computer: OWA Description: The session setup to the Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain Controller \\Server for the domain ***** is not responsive. The current RPC call from Netlogon on \\OWA to \\server.******.com has been cancelled.
Obviously i have removed the server and domain name from this paste.

Are you trying to connect via a client on the Internet or are you testing from one on your LAN? Can you open OWA by connecting directly to the BE server?
What URL do you use and are you sure the A record on an external DNS server points to the correct server/IP?
Can you connect via the FE server if you hit it using it's IP address? Like below example:
https://IP/exchange Are the authentication settings identically configured on the FE and BE server?

I am not sure what the IIS setting should be but they dont look right. The person that configured it has left and there is no documentation.. typical to taking over someones job!
Anyway enough ranting.
Ok on my Exchange Server i have IIS configured with Default web site exchange this looks at the virtual drive O:\domain.com\MBX
Underneath the default web site is domain.com (front end) i dont know why it is listed as front end. The folder direction is set to O:\domain.com\MBX. This is stopped. When i try to start it i get
This service could not be started because it is not correctly confgiured. make sure its server bindings dont conflict with other sites running on the same machine.
On my outlook web access machine i have exactly the same but the domain.com (front end) is running on it.

I have removed the SSL to see if thats the issue.
I can connect to the backend on http://IP Address/Exchange. This logs in fine and loads the page.
On the front end i try to connect to http://IP Address/Exchange and i get the page saying that i need to use https: but as far as i can see i have removed it all.
when i try to connect to the https: it cannot resolve the name.
When i connect to http://exchange.domain.com i get the login box and and it authenticates me but then i get This page is under construction.
When i try to connect to https://exchange.domain.com it is unable to resolve the name.
If i can get it to just work under http: first i can then enable ssl on it.
Can anyone please help me with this?

Must have SSL enabled when using FBA (Form Based Authentication).
On my Exchange 2003 lab, here is my IIS home directories:
ExchWeb: C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\ExchWeb
Exchange: \\.\BackOfficeStorage\test.net\MBX
test.net = my domain
Hope that helps.
