I get an error operation failed, when I try to access my account. also, the information store could not be opened.

Is you IS mounted? If it's not mounted, you won't be able to open anything. If you can't mount it, you may have some corruption issues or something of that nature.

Another reason may be if you had to reinstall Exchange and didn't reapply the service pack you were using, you wouldn't be able to mount the IS.
