Hi guys,

Any one had encountered this problem before as the user sent items in the outlook will show the sender LegacyexchangeDN rather than the Display name? if the mail were forwarded from the sent item the LegacyexchangeDN will shown to the recipient as well, we are using exchange 2007 SP1 and the legacyexchangedn is the same when checked using ADexplorer. Need help and advice on this. Thank a lot guys.

Is this only happening on a user or is it across the board?

If it is a single user then try deleting the outlook profile including the ost and everything in that outlook folder in their windows profiles. Recreate the outlook profile and see if that happens again.

Hi Choppol,

before this it happen on a user but now seems like the problem had spread to many users, and the troubleshooting we had done so far is remove the oab and redownload again no go, remove the NK2 file no go, we tried to recreate the profile it is able to work and also if we uncheck the cache mode in outlook it will work as well, but there are a lot of users involve so would like to know the root cause and if is coming from exchange and able to solve it rather than to recreate the profile for each and every users. Thanks.

It does sound like outlook profile corruption. It is hard because outlook looks at the OAB file the list and if OAB being causing problems then recreating OAB again should fix the problem.

The only problem you have now is that because the ost contains the info it retrieve from the OAB then it might be "umm...can you delete you outlook profile and start again, please."

at first we thought so but then we deleted the OAB file and rebuild again then problem is still there it works when we recreate the profile but we can't afford to do it 1 by 1 for the users.

Check if this issue is happening to users in cache mode or online mode?

If its only cache mode - this is definitely OAB related, if its in online mode ALSO, then we need to start hunting something at server-side causing this.

by the way - check for event viewer on Exchange and DC to see if there are any unknown errors.

Also, check if these legacyDN are FOR any particular user or randomly anyone, in other words is the legacyDN appearing for James / Mary etc and when u perform a CTRL +K it resolves automatically.

hope you get the point

Hi Geek,

The issue happens only when the user in cache mode, in online mode it is working fine. Checked in Event viewer and found nothing that caught our interest. Well on the legacyDN it will only show on the sender for example, James sends a email to Mary and at James sent items in the message the FROM will display James legacyDN rather than his display name, but Mary received the mail without problem as it shows James display name, and if James forward the mail from the sent item to another user Kelly, Kelly will receive his mail and will find that the FROM is with his legacyDN. tried to copy the James legacyDN and put it into TO field and checked the name with will not resolve to display name it will resolve to the same legacyDN as well. very weird case though... thank you

Will try to research on this one, mean while can you rebuild OAB from server-side and check if there are any errors in the application logs ?

If its cache mode issues, this has to be related to OAB / OST files.

we had consider to rebuild the OAB from server side before but we have the concern that the OAB will be to downloaded to all our oversea users as well in which will congest the network traffic hence we are putting that to the last test. Thanks alot

If the particular user account is at fault, there are couple of test you can carry out.

1) Copy the user and create a new user account - mailbox enabled, and check if the same issues appear.
2) Disconnect the user account and re-connect it to his mailbox.
3) Please Message me the LDP Dump of the user account at fault and another user who is a good-user (in other words unaffected).
4) Lastly, a rebuild of OAB within maintenance windows would have helped.

apparently we have a thought that the problem are coming from GC as we redownload the oab it works and by forcing outlook to connect to another GC of ours and it works as well...
