We have a few users who are using Outlook 2010 connected via TCPIP and periodically they get disconnected and there is a prompt in the lower corner indicating that they need to provide a password to connect. When the user clicks the "Need Password" outlook will automatically connect without the need to enter credentials. Is there a way to force Outlook to try and re-connect automatically, so the user doesn't have to initiate the action to reconnect?

The disconnects appear to be realted to a NIC issue where the client is disconnected temporarily (less than a couple of seconds), but all the other applications seem to be able to handle this short disconnect - except Outlook. Although we need to resolve the NIC issue, we'd like the clients to re-connect automatically in the mean time so users aren't disrupted.

Hi,

Do they connect via Outlook Anywhere or just directly to Exchange?
When not specifying the credentials which connections are lost.

They are connecting TCPIP - diretly to exchange.

If they are swithced to Outlook Anywhere, they are only prompted the first time (as expected) and then remain connected.

Hi,

If i understand you, the users are connecting via TCP/IP, but have outlook anywhere configured on the profile.

So, once the network is disconnected, and the exchange server "cannot be reached" outlook client will try HTTP instead - hence the popup.

Try removing the outlook anywhere settings on the profile to be sure.

then again, you will need to re-evaluate the NIC issue, if your clients does need outlook anywhere configured.
