Hello Everyone, A number of employees at my office are getting this message while in outlook. I thought it might of been the idexing crawl that happens for our public folders on the exchange server so I set the interval for an hour instead of every 15 minutes. Didn't make a difference. Any other thoughts on what it might be? Thanks

When this happens, check your server to see if it is busy. This can take the form of CPU utilization, hard drive utilization, or a lot of message processing. If all of that seems low, check your network to see if there is a lot of traffic. Also check the Application Log to see if anything is being reported.

I've been getting the same problems lately. I just got an open relay issue taken care of, so while I don't have hundreds of spam queues building up, I am getting this error. My server is getting bombed with requests, CPU utilization is upwards of 80% at any given time. I'm currently scanning with the Exchange Best practices, so going to take a while. Methodman85, did you get your issues solved yet?

Hey smweinf, The problem is getting much better at this point with the help of the best practices analyzer. I've taken care of most of the critical issues it detected and performance has definitely improved. I still have more to do though including cleaning up my companies public folders, as some are far too big and the indexing of them every hour can't be good for performance. In the meantime while you work though the Issues, you can alleviate the popup message on each users computer by increasing the keepalive timer on their network card. Perform the following: Open up regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> System -> Current Control Set -> Services -> TCIP -> Parameters -> Interfaces look for the active network card and insert a DWORD value named MTU with the decimal value 1300. Hope that helps.

The Best Practices Analyzer didn't come back with much, just a couple of minor issues. Editing the registry has to be done on each client workstation, Correct? I wonder if I could write script to be run at startup to change that value? Is that how you did it?

Hrm.. Did you run the troubleshooter as well? Yup, the workaround has to be done on each effected users computer. I work for a small company, this has been going on for a while so most people are use to it/don't care. A script would be a good idea if you have many users, me, I just went around. If the analyzer is coming back with nothing major then I guess your only options are to go with the workaround and hope you catch the problem somewhere, at some point... or open up a ticket with Microsoft and let them deal with it. The message is so unhelpful it's not even funny... so many different things could be causing it.

I'm running the troubleshooter tomorrow afternoon. Teachers are out of the building then. If there is any work that requires me to re-boot, they freak out not having email for 10 min. I'll see if I can work up a script, I'll post it here if I do. Otherwise, I get to visit a bunch of crabby teachers. Joy.

It's best to run the troubleshooter during the busiest time of the day, that way the tool can fully analyze network traffic and the number of RPC's requests. You won't have to reset the server. You should also run it from a seperate workstation and not the exchange server itself. If it comes back with an extremely high amount of RPC's then you can use the ExMon utility to track down the problem users, and check to see if they have any desktop search engines running or any 3rd party outlook applications.

Outlook 2003 right? we're getting the same message and i confirm that it's related with Outlook 2003 because i have a mix of Outlook XP and Outlook 2007 users for my Exchange 2000 server and this message only appears to Outlook 2003 users no matter what load on the server.
