Hi all,
Im just a new forum member and glad to be there. I have a query and i hope someone can help here to clarify it.
Is there someone who has gone thru the Mspress book Microsoft exchange 2000 Implementation and administration Kit ? Author (KAY UNKROTH) Im reading chapter19 "Implementing Advanced Security" on page 645 some explanations about exchanging Signed messages. I found it strange on the next page there is a figure 19.10 showing the different stages during the sending and the receipt of a message.
In the paragraph "Signing a message" on page 645 they mention about a public signing key that is included in the message before it is sent.
However on the next page and on figure 19.10, on line 3 they mention about " Message plus encrypted digest and sealing certificate (public sealing key) are transmitted to the information store.
Does any one can check this issue or can explain to me hw message signing and verifying a signed message works on Exchange2000. It sounds somewhat confusing to me...
Thanks and cheers

OK, see if this helps:
1. I send you a message, the first thing that happens is I create the hash, and then use my Private key to sign the message, and transmit this along with my Public key
2. You receive the message, and verify my signature using the Public key I sent you.
The diagram is not showing encryption, its showing signing, signing means that you can prove that it was me that sent it and that the message was not altered between me and you.
