I have a copy of my PRIV.EDB. Its not very big only 14MB. I want to restore it to a newly re-built EXCHANGE 5.5 server. But when I copy it (Priv.edb)over and replace the existing, to C:\exchsrvr\mdbdata and start services and Exchange Admin Console, I don't see the two mailboxes I had orignally. Does Exchange 5.5 have some type of restore feature? Any help would be graetly appreaciated. Thanks

You need the Dir.EDB file as well which contains the configuration/mailbox details.

On this note what files are needed for exchange to run? Is having the priv, pub and dir edb files enough to get it to work?

1. The newly configured ExchServer should have the same <ServerName> and IP address.
2. The Service Pack for Exch should be same or higher as of the previous Exch server.
3. Once the newly configured Exch Server is up and running, turn off (ie STOP) all MS Exchange Services.
4. Copy the old priv.edb and pub.edb file into the exch server directory 'mdbdata' folder(eg c:\exchsrvr\mdbdata ).
5. Then from the DOS window change to exch directory (ie 'c:\exchsrvr\bin\)and run the command 'isinteg.exe' with the follwing switch [-patch].
6. This has been tested and restores the complete Exch Server 5.5 to its original state.
Hope this solves your problem.
