Hi,
New to the forum, but followed for years.

I have a SBS 2008 server with Exchange 2007 using LCR suscessfully.

I would like to get a copy of the LCR passive database without alot of fuss. My SBS 2008 setup is very small(10 users), and no nighttime traffic.

My thought is to use a powershell script to suspend the LCR passive copying, copy the passive database folder to another location, then resume the LCR passive database.

I have look high and low for opinions on doing this without any luck, so I thought I would present it here.

So, is this a practical solution or are there unexpected consequences?

Thanks for any help

Best,
Wayne

Well, it would work, but you also have the in-built Windows backup capability to back up the running store.
LCR was never popular which is why it's gone in 2010 so you're not going to get a lot of people with experience running it.
But, what you want to do is perfectly possible.

Thanks for the quick response.

I haven't looked at the native backup utility lately, will check it out, but last time I looked at it, it would only backup volumes, not file systems

As for LCR, I agreed it's not used by most medium and large business, but is a great solution for SBS 2008, you don't need any additonal server resources to get it going.

I'm going to try the suspend/resume procedure on a dev systems, my concern is that it might require a reseed, update, etc to get healthy after the resume. If anyone has had experience with this procedure, I would really like to hear your thoughts.

Best,
Wayne

You won't need to do a reseed because all the logs will just be queued up.
