Hi, Someone asked me and I'm not sure so I thought I asked here. An Exchange Server is just hosting POP accounts. Is it possible for the exch admin to view these emails even though the user has logged onto Outlook and downloaded them to their computer? I'm guessing the answer is no as the emails are no longer on the server. If that is true could an Information Store backup be mounted so that the emails would be on the server and then viewed by the admin. The server would be disconnected from the network in case the user logged on and attempted to retrieve his email. Is there an easier way to do this? Thanks

If you are using POP3 then those messages are gone. I don't even think they are stored by deleted item recovery due to the way they are removed from the store. Personally I don't enable POP3 on to the server for any reason, because users can remove the content and it cannot be backed up. Simon.

As I thought. If they mounted the IS from a backup, say from last week, could the admin then read those emails? I'm not sure why they're using POP. They have an AD domain and an exchange server. Makes no sense to have the domain users use POP but they never asked me :) Thanks

Maybe. I can't remember if email that is removed via POP3 goes in to the dumpster. If not then no. The content has been removed from the store. Simon.
