I am in the beginning phases of testing mailbox moves in our Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010 Coexisted environment. The requirements were quite basic, and we have ended up with 2 CAS/HUB Servers and 2 MBX Servers (Two in Primary and Two in the DR).

A user that has a mailbox on the 2003 server types in http://mail/exchange and they get presented with their appropriate mailbox hosted on the 2003 box. All fine.

After a mailbox move, the user types http://mail/exchange and this instantly redirects to one of our servers holding the mailbox role only: http://mail/exchange becomes http://ex-mbx-cbr/exchange. Obviously this fails with forbidden access. I need this to autoredirect to the address http://ex-cas-cbr/owa which is working perfectly.

I don't see where to change the configuration for this and can't figure out why the MBX server is being chosen as opposed to our CAS/HUB Server.

Please Note that we ONLY use OWA internally for VPN Clients due to our security restrictions. So I don't have to worry about external OWA access.

Or have I got this all upside down? Should I be reconfiguring the http://mail/exchange to be the OWA address for our exchange 2010 server and allow users with 2003 boxes to log in through exchange 2010 and become directed to the old 2003 OWA Server?

Actually the way you are coming about it is not correct. You cannot have the legacy server proxy over to the new Exchange. Instead you will have to inform your users that have been migrated and those left on Exchange 2003 to connect to the CAS url. That way Exchange 2010 can redirect the user to Exchange 2010 or 2003 depending on the mailbox location.

I was trying to avoid having to update the links for so many people, but I can handle that by rolling out a new OWA desktop Icon.

What I don't get is what process is inplace that is changeing the URL from http://mail/exchange to http://ex-mbx-cbr/owa automatically for users after they have been moved! If it was configured for my CAS/HUB server, I would be happy, but it's configured to point to the MBX!

But if it is occuring like this because it is not the way things are done, and I am just being lazy and sloppy, then I am happy to put in some effort to change the url.
