Last night I ran Setup /prepareAD ready for our new Exchange 2007 installation but it failed on the 'Organisation Preparation' stage with the error.

'Got error 0x6BA opening group policy on system Burns in domain AD'

I checked the permissions of all our Group Policy objects (some had Enterprise Domain Controller Read permission missing which I fixed) and there are no other issues I know of.

In the first part it complained about a DNS error and should the IP of a server which I know is NOT a DNS server. Checked Ipconfig on server and they were fine (weird). That first part did complete ok.

Any ideas?

Prima-facie its too difficult to even guess some thing, since it looks as if Exchange was not able to get the query resolved from your DC with regards to the GPO for xyz reasons.

Is it possible for you to copy paste the installation errors from the Exchange setup logs and couple of lines before the error occurred to understand the problem better.

P.S - if possible rename the log and try the cmdlet again.

I have run it again this morning, and what ever I did last week, seems to have fixed the problem, seems to be permission problems with GPOs. Thanks for help anyway.
