Hello, I have Exchange 5.5 SP4 installed on Windows 2000 server. I'm having issues sending out e-mail to external recipients. The problem is that sometimes the message goes through the same second, sometimes it takes about an hour or it doesn't go through at all, Is there any way to check if the messages stuck on our Exchange server or it's the problem with our ISP provider? Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Sure - increase the logging on the IMS (Propeerties, Diagnostic logging tab) and it will write lots of messages to the event log. One of the options also causes a full SMTP session log to be written to the IMCDATA\LOG directory, this will allow you to see the full outbound sessions and determine what is happening when.

I enabled Message transfer, SMTP Interface events and SMTP protocol log on Diagnostics Logging therefore can't see anything in the Events Viewer.

All I can see in the Event Viewer is my Exchange server refusing to relay SPAM. I don't see anything related to outgoing e-mail. Any suggestions? Thank you

Still having this issue with sending out external e-mail. When it goes through I can see this event in the Application Log (I enabled Diagnostic Logging for all categoies), but when it doesn't I don't see any errors in the log, nothing at all. Any thoughts?

Have you looked at the SMTP session log in IMCDATA\LOG as I suggested?

I did, and it's the same thing. When it goes through I can see it in the log. When it doesn't it's not in the log, as if nothing happend at all.

If it's not making it through to the SMTP sessionn log (which is written by the IMS), then it's somewhere inside your email server. Try a message track.
