Hi everyone just recently we had  some users compalin that emails they are sending out are giving the following error

From: Admin
Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 11:46 AM
To: End User
Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Delay)
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.
Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.
yourfriend@sympatico.ca

they also get the same error with 2 other domains but other's work fine.

the messages are  hung in the exchange Que and forcing the connection doesn't work

the people who are having the problem are using a different SMTP connector than the rest of the office because they have a different  email domain( prettysurethat is the right term.

but if not if I send and email  it works fine but my  email address is smallguy@abcinc.com and the people wth the issue are using  enduserr@xyz.com even though we are handling their email through a connector.

I'm not even sure where ot start with this because some emails do work(this does effect more than 1 user)

I've already  talked ot the admin of the other 2 doamins since they're sister companies and he can't see anything wrong on their server. whuchg also host some of the doamins we are able to send to

let me know where ot start as I do;nt mnid donig the leg work I'm jsut not sure where to begin.

Perform a telnet to port 25 on the remote domains mail server, it usually gives an indication of why you cannot send to them. With delayed messages, it will either disconnect at the beginning, but some servers will report a reason.

1. Go to start run, type cmd ok
2. nslookup -type=mx theirdomain.com
note the fqdn of their mail server

telnet fqdnoftheirmailserver 25 (hit enter)
mail from:you@yourdomain.com (hit enter)
rcpt to:them@theirdomain.com (hit enter)
data (hit enter)
. (hit enter)
. (hit enter)

Should say message was queued.

Someone along this transaction it may fail of it was what part and what error?

I tried telnetting again and was able to get to the data command but then it wouldn't get any further (I tihkn it was my error)

but now I can not telnet the server again. I caled the admin form there and he is looking into it because he can't telnet it either.

I used the instructions from

http://www.wikihow.com/Send-Email-Using-Telnet
