Problems with "Maintain per-user read and unread i... - 12.May2005 6:26:00 PM

Hi all,
In one of the articles on the site it mentions that when a folder is going to be used by multiple users, its a good idea to clear the ôMaintain per-user read and unread information for this folderö so that all relevant users know when one of the other users has read and/or responded to the e-mail in it.
I have cleared the checkbox for the Public Folder using Exchange System Manager, but the messages always appears as bold (unread) even if one or more users has actually read it. I would like it to apear as read (not bold) as soon as the first user opens the message.

I have the same problem-ready to scream. Also , you cannot drag those messages into a separate folder, you have to right-click and "move to folder"...help
Sorry for the bad news, but this behavior is "by design." Deselecting the "Maintain per-user read and unread information for this folder" option results in no updates to the read\unread status for any user. There is currently no way to accomplish the end result of having the read\unread status for messages in a Public Folder change, for all users, when accessed by any user.

It's right, this is by design. But there may be a workaround for you. Apply the following Exchange-Server registry key, you are then able to "Follow-Up" every public folder message. Per default all messages from outside the organisation will be posted as IPM.Post. With the registry key, the messages will be posted as IPM.Note and you are able to mark them as Follow-Up (by rightclicking the message). Now the user are able to mark the mails as "done" or "in progress" for example.
