I'm in the process of migrating from our single Exchange 2003 server to a single Exchange 2007 mailbox server. The Exchange 2007 HT and CAS roles are on a separate server and are currently working just fine routing mail and providing OWA and Outlook Anywhere. I have already moved the administrator mailboxes to the new 2007 server and have been replicating Public Folders between the two servers for the past couple of weeks. When reviewing the size and number of items in both PF databases, it appears that everything has replicated. I am planning on moving the rest of the 160 mailboxes to the new Exchange server this weekend. My question is.. when should I run the "Move All Replicas" command? After all mailboxes have been moved, or should I wait a little longer? From what I've read, this will remove the 2003 server from the replica list and will begin to remove everything out of the 2003 PF database correct? As far as System Public Folders, do I need to replicate any of that? I've already moved the generation server for OAB to the 2007 server and I've replicated the Organizational Forms folder, is anything else needed? Scheduled Free/Busy is already on the 2007 server from the installation. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Dave

It doesn't matter too much. The reason is the connector between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 allows public folder referrals. During replication, the hierarchy keeps getting updated. So even if you are mixing both of them, clients will still know how to get to the correct data due to Exchange referring the user to the correct location that has data. Microsoft's documents show moving mailboxes before moving public folder data. But still, you can do it either way as it's just preference. As for system folders, you'll want to replicate it all (definitely the OAB/FreeBusy). Move all replicas takes care of this. Exchange 2003 won't even let you delete a public folder database if there's still data that hasn't been replicated to another server (although there are ways around that). Exchange 2000 won't warn you if there's still data and because of that, more caution has to exhibited to prevent data loss.

Thanks, but I'm a little confused about the "Move all Replicas" command. Does that remove the Exchange 2003 replica? And does that start removing items from the Public Folders on 2003? I used the "Managed Settings" option to overwrite Replicas to all subfolders. If "Move all Replicas" removes the Exchange 2003 replica and data, what is the best way to replicate all System Public Folders? One more thing, is it correct to say that if a mailbox is on an Exchange 2007 then it is accessing the Public Folder database on the Exchange 2007 server and not the 2003 server? Thanks again for your help.
