My public folder database has increased tremendously over the last few months. It is now 195GB and online database maintenance is only freeing up around 200MB per night. When I run folder size properties in Outlook, it only shows that I have about 80GB worth of data and deleted retention is set for 14 days. What could be taking up all of this space?
We treat Public Folders are temporary data. It would be a good time for you approach management and see if you can add a global age limit. We do 365 days.
Tens of thousands. Our company seems to think that we need to keep email forever, setting an age limit will not pass. What all consumes the space in the public folder database beside current items and items that are retained based on retention policy? The database size on the server is 195GB and Outlook reports that there is only 90GB in the Public Folders (I just ran folder size properties today). Is there a powershell script to see what is taking up the space? Online defragment is completing every couple of days but event 1221 only reports a few hundred MB being freed up every day. This is frustrating.
