I'm trying to setup RBL lookups on my Exchange 2003 server sp2 . I believe my problem lies in the fact that my Exchange box sits behind an SMTP Gateway that I don't manage. All incoming messages would show as coming through that smtp Gateway. Is there a way to have RBL loook at the previous hop?

New in SP2 is the ability to configure a perimiter server list of IP's so that Exchange looks beyond the box it actually got the message off.
Configure the gateway servers within ESM.

I did add them to the list but the test emails from SpamHaus still seem to get through. What kind of access out does the Exchange server need to perform the check? Is there any logs which would show if it checking or not?
