ok... huge problems setting this up, ive spent maybe 14 hours trying to set this up... Here it goes.. ok my Direct Push works, my OWA works, but RPC over HTTP DOes not. It just freezes up when trying to set up the info in outlook. I have ssl NOT enforced on my server, but i do have a self made cert.. (as in the free cert). Works fine on OWA.. so i know the cert is ok. in the exchange server i type netbios name, then in the user i type the user... then i go to more setting the connection tab and check mark for over http and then go to the http window. THere i type my FQDN External name.. (same as the ssl cert is on). That name points to my ip adress (a name). So it works like FQDN/exchange = owa.... if you catch my drift. Then im not sure if i use basic auth or NTLM. Ive tried both, with ssl on and ssl off... etc.. still just freezes and says mailbox cannot be found? Anybody got any idea? im running WIndows server 2003 and Exchange 2003 w/ SP2 on both.....

self made cert?? Like from a CA? When you go to https://YOUROWA/rpc on the workstation in question, do you get a blank page or do you get prompted about the cert and not trusting it? If you get prompted then it won't work. We have an internal CA here and in order for RPC over HTTP to work, we have make the workstation trust the root cert. Then it works. NTLM if the workstation is on the domain and authenticating to the domain. I have found that this will not work if the user logs onto the domain with cached credentials (ie. took the laptop home and logged into it). Basic prompts every time Outlook is started.

thanks for the response... ok.... i found out more info.. first off when i do the myowa/rpc i get like a pop up login 3 times then this error HTTP Error 401.3 but on a more interesting note... when using IE 6 and FX 2 i can install my SSL cert fine, but when i went class last night and they use IE 7 and FX 3, the SSL cert was invalid. I tried a manual install and still nothing... Im not sure how to export the cert in the fact that do i want to export a pfx.. and the cert does work fine.. on my computers at home (and they are NOT on the same LAN as the Exchange server). The exchange server is at another house on a DSL connection. So i thought that was an interesting problem.. when trying to add the account in outlook, it just freezes up everytime.. Still not sure do i want to use SSL w/ basic auth, or just NTLM ... anyway it freezes up. I just type in my OWA adress correct? or do i type in like my (A) adresss. as in the adress that points to my ip. OR do i type in (A)/rpc??? in the proxy line.... i also just added the ROOT cert to trusted certs in windows in the mmc command in run. As i said the OWA works fine on my home computer in FX3 and IE7 (not at school for some reason, and the home comp is not even on same network as the Exchnge serv., i think school might block cert install or something...) but when i try to login i either get a pop for a login in tformat: username : NEtbios/user and it pops up like 10 times in a row, then times out, then the program freezes or if ytou wait long enough says unable to connect to exchange server....
