I was told to enable RPC over HTTP ? is this correct and how do i go about it?

Hi,

What Palm Treo model is it?? - if its the 750 model or another model with windows mobile i would use Exchange Activesync to connect directly with your exchange server and synchronize all mail, contacts, calendar & tasks.

This is configured in Activesync on the Treo.

HTH

Andrew

Perfect...If you add your Webmail address to the "Add Server Source" in active sync..add the username and password it will Sync externally Via Exchange Activesync. We use Treo 750's and samsung blackjacks to do just that in our organization.

Thanks for the reply to my message, so i dont need to setup RPC over HTTP ?
Just use the OWA address for the server address and enter the users credentials and thats it?
What about SSL ?
Sorry to be so vague but i am booked to do the job on Tuesday and dont want any problems.

No i would use Exchange over Activesync. - Yep thats what i do - insert the OWA address as server name - add user credentials for authentication an it should synchronize with your exchange server. If you have SSL with your OWA then you will see the option to use SSL when configuring.

Thats ok - do you have a Treo that you can test with now?

No i dont have one to test it on right now, but i do understand what you are saying and i will be onsite tomorrow to configure them.
I am sure that it will all make sense once i am going through the setup.
I will let you know how it all goes after i have configured them.
Thank you for the reply and keeping it simple.

Hi, i went onsite to configure the Palm Treo's and hit a snag.
I entered the OWA address and im not sure if it matters but it seems to remove the https:// out of the address when i enter it and clik ok.
Anyway i get an error indicating that the server certificate is invalid and it seems to be failing at that point.
I googled this and found a lot of people having the same issue, and also found that i was unable to install the certificate onto the Palm due to the registry being locked down and that i would need to do a reg hack in order to get it working??????
Help..............any assistance would be appriciated.

Hey there...

Are you using SSL?? You install the Certificate to the Device from Active Sync...If no SSL you shouldnt need a cert... so it then shouldnt matter if it removes the https.

Does it even get to the sync stage? where does it die?

Yes i am using SSL.
The following is done by installing ActiveSync on to the laptop and doing a sync over the internal network:
I attempt to sync selecting to sync to an Exchange Server and i get an error "The Server certificate is invalid" ?
So i dont get the option to install the certificate.
Now the Phone connecting over the internet:
I have entered in the address of OWA on the phone and i get the same error and i dont get the option to install a certificate.
Did i make the mistake of attempting to sync via the network first?

You need to get the cert on the device either through an SD card or through active sync on the desktop.  Then once it is copied on the device go to file manager on the device and install the cert.  Then make sure that SSL is checked off on the device in the active sync program and try to sync your phone again.  That should do it.

FWIW rpc over HTTP is great for using outlook local on a laptop or what not.  It really is a great way to get email without using a vpn.

I can copy the certificate to the device, but when i click on it to install it from the built in browser it asks me what i want to open it with?
I tried 2 different cert installers but they did not work.

You need to install it by going to start, programs, file Explorer and then browse to where you copied the cert and highlight it and open it.  This is all on the device btw

I am doing that and get asked what app to use to open the certificate with?
Are you saying that on the right click menu i should get the install option?
The file that i copied across to the device is a .crt file and Windows CE does not have an association with the extention.

We are using Telstra 3G network in Australia, same as the company ISP.
I will be back on that site tomorrow so i will try to install the correct file and let you know how i go.
Thanks for the information.

Can anyone link me to some documentation on this? The Palm documentation is very vague on this.
