I have a strange problem happenning to at least two users.  It could be happenning to others but no one else has mentioned it and I don't want to query them until I hopefully have an answer.  Ok, on to the problem.

These users send out an email requesting a read receipt.  When they receive the receipt it displays the conflict icon in outlook.  When they open the message it displays the conflict that the message was edited twice,  but it is by the same person (the sender) and at the same time.  First I thought it be a problem with running cache mode so I renamed their .ost file and opened Outlook so it would recreate.  That didn't solve the problem.  Both users have a Blackberry so I wonder if that is causing the issue.  One user hasn't turned hers on for like 3 weeks whle the other user has his on all the time.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to look or what to do to try and solve this issue?

Thanks

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I've never seen that type of conflict message before.  Can you post it (remove private details) here?

Ok, this will have to wait until Monday then.  I tried to forward it from the user to myself but it won't let me until I clear up the conflict.  Once I do that the icon changes and the read receipt message is visible.  I then got kicked out of her office as she had work to do.  I'll try to do some print screens Monday and post them.

Thanks

Hiya chap, do you have a web server that you can upload them to and then post the links, I am curious like Dean on this one - if not mail them to me and I will post them for you (if you happy with that) so everyone can see.

Cheers

A

I've never seen a conflict over a read receipt before.  A quick search on Google doesn't reveal it as being common, but it has existed before:

http://groups.google.co.uk/group/microsoft.public.exchange2000.admin/browse_thread/thread/c6a15c8477c2bcac/afd7d47674d51deb?lnk=st&q=exchange+read+receipt+conflict&rnum=4&hl=en#afd7d47674d51deb

Interesting the response being linked to PST file though.  I think I read something somewhere how a response to a read receipt was stored as a hidden message, but I'm not sure whether it was linked to a PST file or the actual server-based mailbox.  That may be where the use of MDBVU32 has come from in the link above.  Might be worth a stab - I don't have any other solutions myself.  Will be a good one to solve.

Thanks for the help guys.  I'm waiting on a reply from Andy so we can get the pictures posted. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

I think it's a syncronization issue of some sort because when I tried to forward a message appears referring to a sync issue.  You'll see what I mean once the pics are posted.

I did check a few other users who have blackberries and the few I found that ask for read receipts have not experienced this issue.  At least not that they can recall.

Thanks again

Thanks Andy.

Ok here is what you are seeing.  The first is what the user sees when he/she double clicks the message.  The second picture is the message the user receives when trying to forward the email. The third is a picture of the user's inbox.

Thanks

Do these users synch handheld devices using PCs?  If so, are they synchronizing them using more than one PC?

Hi Andy, you were correct in that I missed your original post.

I just checked MTC and the subject in there does not say Read.  It is in there as this:  Lu : Re: Bank access where in the inbox is reads as: Read: Lu : Re: Bank access.

If I double click the message in MTC I see 7 events, all at the same time (10am):
SMTP: Message Submitted to Advnaced Queuing
SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue
SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer
SMTP: Message Categorized and Queued for Routing
SMTP: Message Queued for local delivery
SMTP:  Messaged delivered locally to xxxxxx@xxxxx.ca
SMTP Store Driver: Message Delivered Locally to Store to xxxxxx@xxxxx.ca

Thanks

Stuart

Bump once more, after an extra long weekend.

BTW, in an effort to remedy the issue and since it was a long weekend here I not only updated and rebooted our Exch Server, I also did the same for the BB and SQL server.  The SQL Server was actually rebooted for a different reason but we'll see if it helps.

Thanks

Stuart,

In my testing, the MTC logs the read receipts and delivery receipts as they are sent to the original sender.  Are you seeing them?  If so, share the output with us.  You say there are seven entries.  Is it always seven?  Do they all share the same subject line?

Dean,

Here is something strange.  On May 11, I can see a read receipt in MTC from someone local in the domain to the user but not from the person who sent the read receipt that was in conflict.  Hmm.........

I'm not sure what to do or where to look next.

Thanks

Stuart

Just to follow up, since the reboot the conflict messages have stopped.

Strange, but thankfully it appears to have been resolved.

How odd, I guess the store got itself in a twist somewhere.  Always nice to see people post resolutions.
